A dream ballet: "Swan Lake". The International Festival Ballet presents a fairy tale of beauty, elegance and grace. A completed work of art accompanied by a live orchestra. "Swan Lake" is synonymous with ballet for many. This romantic tale of the young Prince Siegfried, who falls in love with the swan princess Odette and wants to free her from the evil spell cast by Duke Redbeard, is a story about the power of true love.
This ballet piece is part of the standard repertoire of all major companies. The Allegro Moderato of the swan dances of the second act, in particular, is the subject of countless parodies in the choreography of Lev Ivanov and is therefore known as the "dance of the four little swans" well beyond the ballet-loving public.
In short: a brilliant work by a brilliant composer and which has been attracting audiences for centuries already. "Swan Lake" is magically presented on stage by one of the best classical ballet ensembles, the International Festival Ballet.
Additionally, the grandiose sets of the brilliant theater designer Vyacheslav Okunev, who works among others for the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg and La Scala in Milan, the magnificent costumes and the limitless elegance and carefree lightness of the "International Festival Ballet" guarantee a dreamy and magical version of a classical ballet that still fascinates after more than 100 years.
International Festival Ballet Ensemble dances on Artistic Direction Alex Bogutsky. Since the summer of 2022, the St. Petersburg Festival Ballet has a new name. Shocked and affected by the inhumane war of aggression led by Russia against Ukraine, the famous ballet ensemble changes its name and is now called "International Festival Ballet".
Through this change, the artists express their clear-as-crystal position. The Festival Ballet is an international ballet that thinks beyond national borders and represents understanding and cohabitation in the poetry of art, music, and dance. Since the beginning of the war, the artists have expressed their position against Russian aggression through numerous protest actions before their performances. That's why they are now also threatened by Russia.
